Epic does it again! You know, that company that you assume every 22-year old post college graduate living in Madison works at.
The expansive electronic heath records company that connects to over 3,000 hospitals & 774,000 physicians, reports its system helped prevent over 5.8 million duplicate medical imaging exams in a year. This saved between $310 million and $2.6 billion depending on the type of scan. The system alerts providers when a patient has already had similar imaging, allowing them to cancel unnecessary tests.
By avoiding unnecessary imaging, healthcare providers save time, reduce costs, and minimize patient exposure to risks like radiation. Two independent research teams reviewed the data and reached similar conclusions, highlighting how better data sharing improves care and efficiency.
